What Professional Path Are You On

What value do you bring your team, organization and professional self? Are you fully involved in your career or just along for the ride? Are you a catalyst for change or a proponent of status quo?

Understanding where your sit as a professional is important to your overall success and ultimate happiness. If you’re engaged, driving progress, initiating change and supporting your peers, you’ll feel valued and respected. You’ll feel like you belong to a larger focus and purpose.

But, if you’re simply plugging along, following the lead of others and punching the proverbial time clock, you’ll feel lost, unchallenged and unhappy with your professional path.

So where should you begin to ensure you’re focusing on all the right career catalysts?

Find Where You Belong

Find your group at the office and become active within that team. Finding your fit doesn’t mean settling for what’s most comfortable. Step outside your comfort zone to make new professional connections, especially if you’re feeling less than inspired in your career.

It’s a proven fact that when you surround yourself with individuals who are focused on professional progression, you’re more likely to learn, grow and take on new career challenges. Conversely, when you hang out around the water cooler gossiping and rehashing yesterday’s office news, you’ll remain stagnant, unhappy and in some cases depressed about your professional path.

Understand Where You Are Going

To become fulfilled and accomplished, you need goals. You need a vision of where your headed and a full understanding of where you’ve been. There’s no opportunity for backward progress if you’re really interested in professional growth.

You may not know the exact next step in your career, and that’s ok. But, you should at least have an idea of what you’d like to do next. The industries you’d like to focus in and the functions you enjoy.

Understand Your Strengths And Weaknesses

If you are clueless about where your professional strengths lie and what areas you need to shore up, you’ll flounder throughout your career. We all need the confidence in knowing that we’re good at something, but we also need to be open about our areas of improvement.

Take off your blinders. Be candid about what you want as a professional and what you’ll need to learn to get there. What skills do you bring with you that will be an asset?

Understand That Career Advancement And Success Isn’t Given

If you’re interested in moving forward as a professional, the first step is being open to changing your patterns, habits and professional outlook. Driving in the dark will only lead to frustration. Advancing professionally happens when you dig deep and work for it.  If you’re ready for 1:1 Career Coaching to reach your goals, tap me. My team and I are ready to help! Be Amazing! – Jeanna
